How-to guide · chapter 9 of 10

Hand bugs to your coding agent

Connect Claude Code, Cursor or Codex, and send bugs to it.

Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and other MCP clients can read a BugTape issue directly: what the user did, the request that failed and the stack. Your agent works on a fix and opens a pull request; your team reviews it.

This works on every plan. On Free and Prepaid credits, each agent read of a bug costs 2 credits (Free includes 150 a month). On Pro, agent reads are free.

Connect your agent

  1. In the console, open Settings → Agents and create an agent token.
  2. Follow the MCP install guide for your client. It shows the exact command for Claude Code, Cursor and Codex.
  3. Ask your agent: "List the recommended BugTape issues." The token table in Settings shows Connected once the agent has used its token.

Send a bug to your agent

On any issue, choose Send to agent, or select several issues on the Issues page and send them together. The next time your agent asks BugTape for work, those issues come first. The issue shows whether the agent has picked it up.

Settings → Agents also lets BugTape send serious new bugs to your agent automatically, and shows where each hand-off goes.

What your agent does

A typical session:

  1. list_recommended_critical: what to fix first, including anything you sent.
  2. get_repro_context: the evidence for one report.
  3. ack_bug: tells your team the agent is working on it, with a pull request link when it has one.

Progress updates go to your alert channels. Agents can also read /llms.txt for the full tool list.
