BugTape and Sentry: run both, or switch.

BugTape records what broke in your web app, server or iOS app, groups every report of the same failure into one issue and hands the evidence to your coding agent over MCP. You can run it next to the error monitor you have now. This page says what BugTape does not do, so you can decide.

Keep your error monitor

Keep the tool you have if you need any of these.

BugTape does not do everything an error monitor can. This list is about BugTape only. Check each vendor’s own site for its current features and prices.

What BugTape does not do
Fatal native crash captureBugTape does not capture fatal native crashes and does not symbolicate. The Swift package (alpha) sends handled errors, messages, breadcrumbs and user reports.
Tracing, logs and metricsBugTape does not do performance tracing, log search or metrics dashboards. It records what led up to each failure.
Self-hostingBugTape does not run on your own servers. It is a hosted service at app.bugtape.ai.
SOC 2BugTape is not SOC 2 certified. We answer security questionnaires.
EU data regionBugTape does not offer an EU region. Data is stored in Sydney, Australia.
Other languagesBugTape has SDKs for the browser, Node.js, Python and Swift. Other languages send errors to the HTTP ingest API. React Native uses a copy-in file, not an SDK.
Long event historyBugTape keeps recorded events for 7 days on Free and 30 days on Pro and Prepaid credits. Issues stay until you delete them.

What BugTape adds

One issue per failure, with the evidence your agent needs.

These are BugTape’s own features, on every plan unless the card says otherwise.

ONE ISSUE PER FAILURE

Every report of the same failure lands on one issue.

A web report carries a replay of the page (rebuilt from DOM events, not video), the network requests, the console and the stack. A server report carries the stack, the route and the release.

REPEATS COST 0 CREDITS

A noisy bug stays one issue.

A new issue costs 1 credit. A repeat report of an issue you already have costs 0, even when the bug fires on every page view.

YOUR AGENT, OVER MCP

Your own coding agent reads the bug.

Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or any MCP client reads the evidence itself. Press Send to agent, or let the agent listen and wake when a new issue arrives.

FLAT PRICE

Pro is $29 a month.

Pro includes 10,000 credits and unmetered agent reads. BugTape does not charge per fix: your own agent does the work.

FIX CHECK

The fix is checked in your next release.

Approve a fix and BugTape watches the next release. If the same failure comes back from a newer release, the issue reopens as a regression and you get an alert.

PRIVACY IN THE BROWSER

You choose what leaves the browser.

Typed inputs are masked before a report is sent. Strict mode turns page text into blocks, and sealed client details stay unreadable to BugTape.

Run both

You can run BugTape next to your current error monitor.

Both browser SDKs can load on the same page. Each one reports errors on its own, so a failure shows up in both tools.

  1. Load BugTape after your consent banner allows it. It keeps a short buffer in memory and sends it only when an error fires or a user reports a problem, so it does not record every session.
  2. Links to other tools are optional. If Datadog RUM runs on the page, BugTape adds the Datadog session to each report. You do not need to change anything else. Use BugTape with Datadog.
  3. Decide later. Keep both for as long as you like, or remove the other SDK’s init call when BugTape covers what you need.

Switch the browser SDK

Switch in three steps.

Use the script tag, or npm install @bugtape/sdk with a bundler and import { init } from '@bugtape/sdk'.

  1. Create a project

    Setup mints a bt_live_* project key and shows it once.

  2. Init with your key

    Call init once, after your cookie or consent banner allows it.

  3. Send a test error

    In the browser console, run setTimeout(() => { throw new Error('BugTape install test'); }); A new issue called BugTape install test appears in Issues.

<script type="module">
  import { init } from 'https://app.bugtape.ai/bugtape.mjs';
  init({ apiKey: 'bt_live_your_key_here' });
</script>

Questions

Is BugTape a Sentry alternative?

For browser errors with a replay, bug reports from your users and a hand-off to your coding agent, yes. For fatal native crashes, tracing, logs, metrics, self-hosting, SOC 2 or an EU data region, no: BugTape does not do those, so keep the tool you have.

Can I run BugTape and Sentry on the same site?

Yes. Both browser SDKs can load on the same page, and each one reports errors on its own. You can start with both and decide later.

What does BugTape cost?

Free is $0 with no credit card: 100 new issues a month, 1 project, 3 members and 7 days of recorded events. A prepaid pack costs $10 for 2,000 credits that never expire. Pro is $29 a month with 10,000 credits, 5,000 new issues a month and unmetered agent reads. A repeat report of an issue you already have costs 0 credits.

Does BugTape fix bugs by itself?

No. BugTape gives the evidence to your coding agent over MCP. The agent works on a fix and opens a pull request, and your team decides what ships.

Where is my data stored?

In Sydney, Australia. There is no EU region, and BugTape is not SOC 2 certified. The security page lists every subprocessor.

Which platforms does BugTape support?

The browser SDK (a script tag, or @bugtape/sdk on npm), Node.js (@bugtape/node), Python (bugtape on PyPI) and a Swift package for iOS and macOS (alpha, handled errors only). React Native uses a copy-in file, not an SDK. Any other language can send errors to the HTTP ingest API.
