Use BugTape with Lovable

Add BugTape to Lovable as a custom MCP connector with OAuth. Lovable reads real-user errors, the failed request and stack, then fixes the code.

Your Lovable app is live and real visitors are hitting errors. This page shows how to get those errors into the Lovable chat, so Lovable can read the evidence and fix the code. It uses Lovable's custom MCP connector and BugTape's hosted MCP server at https://app.bugtape.ai/mcp. We ran this flow end to end on 14 October 2026. The steps below are the ones that worked.

Three options, use what fits

Lovable already gives you ways to see errors. BugTape sits next to them. It does not replace them.

OptionWhat it doesGood to know
Lovable Project monitoringLovable checks recent visitor errors and your code on a scheduleBeta, on paid Lovable plans, and each run uses Lovable credits (per Lovable's docs)
Sentry chat connectorLovable reads your Sentry issues in chatBuilt into Lovable. Needs the Sentry SDK and a DSN in your app
BugTape custom MCP connectorLovable reads BugTape issues: what the user did, the failed request, console and stackOne script tag in your app, then one custom connector

If you already run Sentry, keep it. You can add BugTape as well and choose per bug which evidence to hand Lovable. BugTape vs Sentry explains how the two fit together.

Step 1: add the BugTape script to your app

Start free and create a project. Setup shows your bt_live_ key. Then ask Lovable in chat:

Add this script tag to index.html, inside the head.

<script type="module">
  import { init } from 'https://app.bugtape.ai/bugtape.mjs';
  init({ apiKey: 'bt_live_your_key_here', privacy: 'strict' });
</script>

privacy: 'strict' masks page text in the replay before it leaves the browser. Publish the app so real visitors load the script. The bt_live_ key only sends reports. It cannot open MCP.

Step 2: add BugTape as a custom MCP connector

In Lovable, open the chat connectors and add a custom MCP server.

  1. Set the server URL to https://app.bugtape.ai/mcp.
  2. Keep OAuth as the sign-in method.
  3. Save. Lovable opens a BugTape sign-in window.

Step 3: sign in and allow access

Sign in to BugTape, or create a free account in that window. The consent screen reads Connect Lovable to BugTape.

  1. Pick the workspace Lovable should use.
  2. Keep the default permissions or trim them: Pick up and fix issues, File new issues and Set up capture.
  3. Access lasts 90 days. Click Allow.

Lovable then shows the connector as Connected and lists the BugTape tools. You can remove the connector in Lovable, or remove the agent from BugTape's Team page, at any time.

Step 4: first prompt

Check the connection first:

Using BugTape, list my projects.

Lovable calls list_projects and shows your BugTape projects. Once real errors arrive, ask:

Using BugTape, call list_recommended_critical, take the top issue, and call get_repro_context for it. Explain what broke, then fix it.

Lovable edits the code in its own chat. You review the change and publish it yourself. Lovable shows an approval card before it runs a tool that is not read-only.

Plans and credits

MCP works on every plan, including Free. On Free and Prepaid credits, each agent read of a bug's captured events costs 2 credits. Free includes 150 credits a month. On Pro ($29 USD a month) those reads are free. A prepaid pack costs $10 USD for 2,000 credits. Detail is on Pricing.

listen (the live wait for the next bug) needs Pro, or prepaid credits on the workspace. On Free without those credits, start with list_recommended_critical. Do not start with list_bugs.

Capture keys (bt_live_ / bt_test_) are rejected for MCP. They only send reports. The agent uses OAuth or a bt_pat_ token. MCP install · MCP tools.

FAQ

Does BugTape replace Lovable Project monitoring or the Sentry connector? No. Use them alongside each other. BugTape adds the user steps, the failed request, console and stack for each issue, ready for Lovable to read.

Which Lovable plans can add a custom MCP connector? Lovable documents custom MCP connectors on all plans. Check Lovable's docs for the current list.

Does Lovable open a pull request? Not by default. Lovable edits code in its own chat. If your project syncs to GitHub, the changes land there.
