Rollbar alternatives in 2026: seven tools compared on price, replay and MCP

Sentry, Honeybadger, GlitchTip, PostHog, Raygun, Bugsnag and BugTape compared with Rollbar on free plan, entry price, replay, MCP and self-hosting.

Short answer: If you want more than errors (tracing, logs, uptime) in one place, look at Sentry. If you want a simple flat monthly bill, look at Honeybadger. If you want to keep costs low or self-host, GlitchTip accepts Sentry's SDKs and is open source. If you already use PostHog for analytics, PostHog error tracking has the largest free allowance here. Raygun bundles crash reporting with real user monitoring and APM. BugTape is the narrow option. I built it to hand bugs that real users hit in the browser to your coding agent, with the evidence attached. It has no tracing, logs or deploy tracking.

No account: npx -y bugtape --help prints the commands and does not sign you in. The demo MCP at https://app.bugtape.ai/demo/mcp needs no sign-in. Your own workspace needs one.

Rollbar itself is a good product. It has session replay on its Free plan, AI root-cause analysis, an official MCP server and Resolve, a fix agent that opens pull requests. Read BugTape vs Rollbar before you decide to leave it.

What every tool here now has

Every tool in the table has an official MCP server, so "it has MCP" no longer separates them. The differences are where the server runs and what the agent gets.

  • Local or hosted. Rollbar's MCP server and the @smartbear/mcp package run on your machine. Sentry, Honeybadger, PostHog, Raygun and BugTape host theirs, so you add a URL and sign in.
  • What the agent reads. Most return issues, stack traces and events. Rollbar's can also return replay data. BugTape's get_repro_context returns one occurrence's report text, timeline, failed request, console and stack.
  • Who fixes it. Rollbar has Resolve and Sentry has Seer, a paid add-on. BugTape has no fixer of its own. Your coding agent (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex) reads the evidence and opens the pull request, and a person reviews it.

Notes on each tool

  • Sentry. Seer, its AI debugger, is billed per active contributor on paid plans. Its docs list $40 a month per contributor.
  • Honeybadger. The plans page lists uptime monitoring and logs on the free tier. It does not list session replay.
  • GlitchTip. Its MCP server runs on the hosted platform at no extra cost. On a self-hosted instance you turn it on with GLITCHTIP_ENABLE_MCP.
  • PostHog. Error tracking is billed per exception after the free 100K, with no base fee in its docs.
  • Raygun. "AI Error Resolution" is listed in Crash Reporting Basic.
  • Bugsnag. Its paid prices only appear after the page's JavaScript runs, so I don't quote a number. Bugsnag vs Sentry has the figures I read on 18 October.

Where BugTape fits

BugTape does not record every visit. The browser SDK keeps a short buffer and sends it with an uncaught error, a failed or hung request, or a user's report. Repeats of the same failure become one issue. Server SDKs for Node.js and Python add route, service and release.

Your agent connects once to https://app.bugtape.ai/mcp, reads the ranked inbox with list_recommended_critical, calls ack_bug so your team sees it picked the issue up, and adds the pull request URL when it opens one. When you approve the fix, BugTape anchors it to that release. If real users hit the same failure on a later release, the issue reopens as a regression.

Try BugTape without an account

claude mcp add --transport http bugtape-demo https://app.bugtape.ai/demo/mcp

The demo is read-only and holds one sample shop. Start with list_recommended_critical, then get_repro_context. For your own workspace, run npx -y bugtape connect claude (or cursor, codex) and click Allow once.

FAQ

What is the best free Rollbar alternative?

On 2 November 2026, PostHog had the largest free allowance here at 100,000 exceptions a month. GlitchTip is free to self-host. Sentry and Honeybadger each give 5,000 errors a month on one user.

Is there an open-source Rollbar alternative?

Yes. GlitchTip is open source and accepts Sentry's client SDKs. Sentry can also be self-hosted for free under its FSL licence, without its AI features.

Which Rollbar alternatives have a hosted MCP server?

Sentry, Honeybadger, PostHog, Raygun and BugTape host theirs. Rollbar's own server runs locally over stdio.

Is BugTape a Rollbar replacement?

Only if your main need is browser bugs handed to a coding agent. BugTape has no deploy tracking, tracing, logs or backend APM.

How much does BugTape cost?

The Free plan costs nothing and needs no card. Prepaid credits are $10 for 2,000. Pro is $29 USD a month. See Pricing.
