Highlight.io alternatives in 2026

Highlight.io now redirects to LaunchDarkly. LaunchDarkly Observability, OpenReplay, Sentry, PostHog, LogRocket and BugTape compared by what Highlight did.

Short answer: Highlight.io's site now redirects to LaunchDarkly, which acquired it in April 2025. If you want to stay with the same team, LaunchDarkly Observability offers session replay and error monitoring through its SDK plugins. If you want open source session replay you can self-host, look at OpenReplay. For error tracking with replay in one hosted product, Sentry or PostHog. For replay-first analytics, LogRocket. BugTape covers one part of what Highlight did. It records browser failures with a short replay and hands them to your coding agent. It has no full session recording, log search or traces.

No account: npx -y bugtape --help prints the commands and does not sign you in. The demo MCP at https://app.bugtape.ai/demo/mcp needs no sign-in. Your own workspace needs one.

Page owner: Jaco Veldsman, hi@bugtape.ai. Last checked 2026-11-02. I build BugTape, so read the BugTape row with that in mind. On 2 November 2026, highlight.io returned a permanent redirect to launchdarkly.com. The acquisition is from LaunchDarkly's announcement and its current offer from the Observability docs. Other rows come from the vendors' own pages on the same day, linked below.

What Highlight did, and who does each part now

Highlight combined session replay, error monitoring, logs and traces. Few tools cover all four, so decide which part you used most.

Notes on each option

  • LaunchDarkly Observability. Its docs say session replay and errors are turned on through plugins for LaunchDarkly's SDKs, and that it is not available in its federal environments. If you already use LaunchDarkly for feature flags, this is the shortest move.
  • OpenReplay. The self-hosted edition is free with community support. Its cloud starts with a 7-day trial.
  • Sentry. The closest single hosted product to Highlight's mix of errors, replay, logs and traces.
  • PostHog. Errors, replay and product analytics in one place, billed by usage.
  • LogRocket. Replay-first, priced by sessions. There's no free plan, only a trial.

Where BugTape fits

If what you used Highlight for was "show me what the user did before it broke", BugTape covers that for browser failures. The SDK keeps a short buffer and sends it with an uncaught error, a failed or hung request, or a user's report. The replay is rebuilt from DOM events, not screen video. Repeats become one issue. Your coding agent reads it over MCP and opens a pull request that a person reviews.

BugTape doesn't record every session, has no custom event tracking and no log search. Highlight.io to BugTape lists what carries over and the three-step switch.

FAQ

Is Highlight.io shut down?

On 2 November 2026, highlight.io redirected to launchdarkly.com. LaunchDarkly acquired Highlight in April 2025 and now sells its observability features as LaunchDarkly Observability.

What is the best open-source Highlight.io alternative?

OpenReplay for session replay. Sentry can also be self-hosted for free under its FSL licence, without its AI features.

Does BugTape replace Highlight.io?

Not fully. It covers browser errors and failed requests with a short replay, plus Node.js and Python server errors. It has no full session recording, logs or traces.
