PostHog error tracking alternatives in 2026
Sentry, Rollbar, Honeybadger, GlitchTip, LogRocket, OpenReplay and BugTape compared with PostHog error tracking on free volume, price, replay and MCP.
Short answer: If you already run PostHog for analytics, try its error tracking first: the first 100,000 exceptions a month are free and each issue links to the user's replay. Look elsewhere when you want a dedicated error tool. Sentry adds tracing, logs and uptime. Rollbar is priced by usage with unlimited users. Honeybadger has a flat monthly price. GlitchTip is open source and accepts Sentry's SDKs. LogRocket puts replay first. BugTape is the narrow option. I built it to group browser bugs real users hit and hand them to your coding agent. It doesn't do product analytics.
No account: npx -y bugtape --help prints the commands and does not sign you in. The demo MCP at https://app.bugtape.ai/demo/mcp needs no sign-in. Your own workspace needs one.

How I'd choose
| If you need… | Pick |
|---|---|
| The most free error volume, and you already use PostHog | Stay on PostHog |
| Tracing, logs and uptime next to errors | Sentry |
| Many users and a small bill | Rollbar |
| A flat monthly price | Honeybadger |
| Errors on your own servers | GlitchTip |
| Full session replay and funnels with errors attached | LogRocket, or OpenReplay to self-host |
| A short list of grouped browser failures your coding agent can fix | BugTape |
Why people move off PostHog for errors
Three common reasons. Check them against your own setup.
- They don't use the analytics. PostHog's error tracking makes most sense when you also use its replay, events and feature flags. If you only want errors, a dedicated tracker has fewer settings.
- They want tracing or logs. PostHog's error tracking docs focus on exceptions. Sentry and Honeybadger put traces, logs or uptime on the same bill.
- They want every failure to come with evidence. In PostHog, an issue's replay depends on your recording and sampling settings. BugTape sends its replay buffer with each supported failure, so every captured browser bug has one.
Where BugTape fits
BugTape doesn't record every visit and has no funnels, heatmaps, experiments or feature flags. The browser SDK keeps a short buffer and sends it with an uncaught error, a failed or hung request, or a user's report. Repeats become one issue. Node.js and Python SDKs cover servers.
Your agent connects to https://app.bugtape.ai/mcp, reads the ranked inbox with list_recommended_critical and calls get_repro_context for one occurrence's timeline, failed request, console and stack. It marks the issue as picked up and adds the pull request URL. A person reviews the pull request.
You can keep PostHog for analytics and add BugTape for errors. BugTape vs PostHog covers that setup.
FAQ
Is PostHog error tracking free?
The first 100,000 exceptions a month are free. After that PostHog's docs list $0.00037 per exception up to 325,000, then less at higher volume.
What is the best PostHog alternative for error tracking only?
Sentry if you want the broadest tool, Honeybadger for a flat price, GlitchTip to self-host. BugTape if you want browser bugs handed to a coding agent.
Do these alternatives have MCP servers?
Yes, all of them on 2 November 2026. Sentry, Honeybadger, LogRocket, PostHog and BugTape host theirs. Rollbar's and OpenReplay's run locally.
Can I use PostHog and BugTape together?
Yes. BugTape uses its own browser SDK and doesn't read PostHog data, so the two run side by side.
