Jam alternatives in 2026: six tools compared on price, replay and MCP
Marker.io, BugHerd, Userback, Gleap, Sentry User Feedback and BugTape compared with Jam on free plan, entry price, replay, console and network, and MCP.
Short answer: If you want to keep what Jam does (a person records a bug with the console and network attached) and add client-facing feedback, look at Marker.io, BugHerd or Userback. If you want bug reporting inside a support suite, look at Gleap. If your team already uses Sentry, its User Feedback widget is the cheapest place to start. BugTape is the different option. I built it to catch the failures real users hit in the browser and never record, and to hand them to your coding agent over MCP with the evidence attached. It does not record video or voice, and it has no screenshots.
No account: npx -y bugtape --help prints the commands and does not sign you in. The demo MCP at https://app.bugtape.ai/demo/mcp needs no sign-in. Your own workspace needs one.
Jam itself is a good tool. Its Free plan includes 30 Jams and connects to Jira and Linear, and its MCP server lets an agent read a Jam's video, transcript, console logs and network requests. Read Jam vs BugTape before you decide to leave it.
Page owner: Jaco Veldsman, hi@bugtape.ai. Last checked 2026-11-04. I build BugTape, so read the BugTape row with that in mind. Every other row comes from the vendor's own pricing page or docs on 4 November 2026, linked below. Prices change, so check their sites before you buy.
Why people look for a Jam alternative
The reasons are usually about who is allowed to report and what the plan limits. Jam's Free plan caps Jams at 30 and Recording Links at 5, and recordings at 5 minutes. Team is priced per creator, so a larger group of testers adds up. Some teams want feedback pinned to a live page for clients, or a support inbox next to the bug reports. Others want the agent to see bugs nobody recorded. Those are three different jobs, and the tools below split along them.
Where BugTape fits
BugTape is the narrow option on this list. A person does not have to press record. The browser SDK keeps a short buffer and sends it when it sees an uncaught error, a failed request after a user action, or a request that hangs. Users can also file a report from an optional bug button, which attaches the report text and the last ten minutes of page activity. Repeats of the same failure become one issue, and your agent reads the evidence over MCP.
What you give up: BugTape has no video, no voice, no screenshots and no annotation. It has no Jam, Marker.io, BugHerd or Userback integration, and it does not read their reports. It has no tracing, logs or self-hosting. Browser replay is rebuilt from DOM events and is web only. Data is stored in Sydney. If a tester needs to show you what they saw, use Jam or one of the feedback tools. See BugTape vs Jam.

How I'd choose
| If you need… | Pick |
|---|---|
| A tester or customer shows the bug with a recording | Stay on Jam |
| Clients and QA mark up a live site, with replay and console on a higher tier | Marker.io or Userback |
| Feedback pinned to the page for non-technical clients | BugHerd |
| Bug reports next to live chat and support | Gleap |
| User feedback in the tool that already holds your errors | Sentry |
| Failures nobody reports, grouped, and read by your coding agent | BugTape, next to whichever tool you keep |
| Video, voice, screenshots, tracing or logs | Not BugTape |
Notes on each tool
- Jam. It records through a Chrome extension, Jam for Mac and an iOS app, and customers can record through Recording Links. Its MCP can read a Jam and comment on it. Its
jam recordcommand lets an agent record a fix. The MCP reads Jams but cannot record one. Enterprise adds SAML/SSO and audit logs. - Marker.io. Unlimited reporters are free on every plan, and you pay for team members. Starter has no session replay, console logs or network requests. It also monitors websites for accessibility, content quality and broken links, and lists SOC 2 Type II.
- BugHerd. Installs by JavaScript tag or browser extension. It takes feedback on websites, Figma, PDFs and images, and gives a 60-day money-back guarantee. Extra members are $8 a month, and Jira, Asana, Linear, ClickUp and Monday.com are on Premium ($125/mo yearly, $150 monthly).
- Userback. Business Plus ($159/mo annually) adds the mobile SDK, REST API, webhooks and privacy masking. Business ($89/mo annually) adds Jira and ClickUp two-way sync.
- Gleap. It is a support suite with bug reporting, not only a bug reporter. On Team ($149/mo yearly), its Kai Code agent opens pull requests, and AI is billed by usage.
- Sentry. The widget collects a description, screenshot, email, up to 60 s of replay and the URL, and can create GitHub or Jira issues. Whether Sentry's MCP returns User Feedback items to an agent: not yet tested.
Try BugTape without an account
claude mcp add --transport http bugtape-demo https://app.bugtape.ai/demo/mcpThe demo is read-only and holds one sample shop. Start with list_recommended_critical, then get_repro_context. For your own workspace, run npx -y bugtape connect claude (or cursor, codex) and click Allow once. Jam's MCP and BugTape's MCP can sit side by side in the same client. How they behave together: not yet tested.
FAQ
What is the best free Jam alternative?
It depends on the job. On 4 November 2026, Userback's Free plan had 2 seats and 2 sites, with feedback viewable for 7 days. Sentry's Developer plan is free for one user. BugTape's Free plan has 100 new issues and 150 credits a month, with no card. Marker.io and Gleap list no free plan.
Does Jam have an MCP server?
Yes. It is remote at https://mcp.jam.dev/mcp and works with Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and VS Code. An agent pastes a Jam link and reads the video, transcript, console logs, network requests and user events.
Is BugTape a Jam replacement?
Only for bugs nobody records. BugTape does not record video, voice or screenshots. Many teams will use both.
Can I move my Jams into BugTape?
No. BugTape has no Jam integration. Install the SDK to start capturing failures, and keep Jam for recordings.
How much does BugTape cost?
The Free plan costs nothing and needs no card. Prepaid credits are $10 for 2,000. Pro is $29 USD a month. See Pricing.
