Use BugTape with Bolt

Draft guide: add BugTape to Bolt.new as a custom MCP connector next to the Sentry connector. Steps follow Bolt docs and are being verified.

Draft. We are still testing this flow end to end. The steps below follow Bolt's own connector docs. We will update this page with the steps we verify. Until then it is not indexed.

Bolt.new lets you add connectors to a project, including a built-in Sentry connector and custom MCP servers. BugTape's hosted MCP server is https://app.bugtape.ai/mcp. Adding it as a custom connector is meant to let Bolt read the errors your app's users hit.

Two options, use what fits

OptionWhat it doesGood to know
Sentry connectorBolt reads your Sentry issues in chatBuilt into Bolt. Needs the Sentry SDK in your app
BugTape custom MCP connectorBolt reads BugTape issues: what the user did, the failed request, console and stackOne script tag in your app, then one custom connector. Being tested now

If you already run Sentry in Bolt, keep it. BugTape is meant to sit alongside it. BugTape vs Sentry explains how the two fit together.

Step 1: add the BugTape script to your app

Start free, create a project and copy your bt_live_ key. Then ask Bolt to add this to index.html:

<script type="module">
  import { init } from 'https://app.bugtape.ai/bugtape.mjs';
  init({ apiKey: 'bt_live_your_key_here', privacy: 'strict' });
</script>

Step 2: add a custom connector (per Bolt's docs)

Bolt's docs describe a custom MCP server with a name, a URL, an HTTP transport, and either MCP OAuth or an API key. For BugTape, the URL is https://app.bugtape.ai/mcp. An API key would be a bt_pat_ token from Team → Add an agent. We have not yet confirmed this flow in Bolt.

FAQ

Has BugTape tested Bolt end to end? Not yet. A live test is running. We will publish only the steps that pass.

Does BugTape replace Bolt's Sentry connector? No. Use both if you like.
