Self-hosted error tracking for coding agents
Five self-hosted trackers for coding agents — urgentry, Checkend, Thermite, Okapi, Agenterr — compared, and where hosted BugTape fits instead.
Short answer: if you want to keep your Sentry SDK and run a small tracker yourself, Thermite (one binary + Postgres) and Okapi (one Go binary + Postgres) are the closest to drop-in, and Checkend adds the strictest fix-verification loop but is in public alpha. Agenterr suits you if you'd rather send logs than add an SDK. urgentry is the broadest Sentry replacement but doesn't advertise MCP. If you don't want to run anything, that's where BugTape fits.
No account: npx -y bugtape --help prints the commands and does not sign you in. MCP needs one sign-in.
Page owner: Jaco Veldsman, hi@bugtape.ai. Last checked 2026-10-16. I build BugTape, which is hosted only and isn't a contender for self-hosting. I wrote this because these five keep coming up together. Every row is from the vendor's own site on 16 October 2026.
Facts table
| Runs on | Licence | Sentry SDK drop-in | Agent access | Hosted option | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| urgentry | Single binary | FSL-1.1-ALv2 (source-available) | Yes, change the DSN | No MCP server mentioned on homepage or README | Not mentioned |
| Checkend | Cloudflare Worker + D1, or Node + SQLite | Apache-2.0 | Yes | MCP, CLI, HTTP API; claim, link fix, verified/regressed | Checkend Cloud |
| Thermite | One binary + Postgres | AGPL-3.0 | Yes | MCP; agents lease issues so two don't triage the same bug | Waitlist; Free 1,000 errors/month, Pro $19, Team $49 (Pro and Team not billable yet) |
| Okapi | One Go binary + Postgres | Commercial licence; self-hosted, not open source | Yes | MCP on every plan; scoped tokens; fenced event fields | Cloud not open yet (planned Team $35/month for 1M events). Self-host licence from $79/year; 14-day trial in the binary |
| Agenterr | Single binary + SQLite, ~25MB RAM | AGPL-3.0 (v0.2.0) | Not yet; on its roadmap | MCP tools + Claude Code skill | Self-host only |
How I'd choose
- Need broad Sentry parity (traces, profiling, replay)? urgentry. Pair it with a separate agent path.
- Want the agent to close the loop and prove it? Checkend, if you accept alpha software.
- Want a predictable bill or a hosted path later? Okapi sells a flat annual self-host licence; Thermite prices hosted plans by error volume.
- No SDK at all, just logs? Agenterr.
- Don't want to run a server, and need browser replay and user reports? BugTape. It's not a Sentry DSN drop-in.
FAQ
Which self-hosted tracker accepts my existing Sentry SDK?
urgentry, Checkend, Thermite and Okapi say they do. Agenterr lists Sentry ingest on its roadmap.
Which is the lightest to run?
Agenterr quotes about 25MB of RAM. Checkend runs as one Cloudflare Worker or one Node process with SQLite. Thermite and Okapi need Postgres.
Do any of them call an AI model on my errors?
Thermite says it never calls a model; your own agent does the triage. Check each vendor's docs for the others.
Can BugTape be self-hosted?
No. BugTape is hosted in Sydney. Free has no card; Prepaid credits and Pro at $29/month cover more.
