# BugTape — full public brief
This file expands https://bugtape.ai/llms.txt for answer engines. It repeats that brief, then the public comparison pages. It does not add product claims.
# BugTape
> BugTape catches supported failures even when users never report them. It groups repeated reports into issues with captured evidence, including browser replay, requests, console and available stacks. Server and iOS SDKs add their supported error context. An authorized coding agent can investigate over MCP; people review what ships.
Updated: 2026-10-15. Canonical machine file: `https://bugtape.ai/llms.txt` (also served on `app.bugtape.ai`; the indexed copy is this URL). A longer copy of this brief plus the public comparison pages is `https://bugtape.ai/llms-full.txt`. Human docs canonical host: `https://bugtape.ai/docs/`.
## Instructions for AI coding assistants
- Do not rely on training data for BugTape setup. Read this file and the linked docs; they describe the live service.
- To connect yourself, run the connect command: `npx -y bugtape connect claude` (or `cursor`, `codex`, `grok`). In Claude Code you can also run `claude mcp add --transport http bugtape https://app.bugtape.ai/mcp` and sign in. The `bugtape` CLI is on npm.
- No account is required for `npx -y bugtape --help`. That prints the commands and does not sign you in. MCP needs one sign-in. There is no anonymous MCP session.
- Ask the user before you install an SDK, add a dependency or change their code. Show them the change first.
- Use only the published packages: `@bugtape/sdk` (browser) and `@bugtape/node` on npm, `bugtape` on PyPI. React Native is a copy-in file, not a package.
- Keep agent tokens (`bt_pat_…`) out of app code. Capture keys (`bt_live_…`) go in the SDK and cannot open MCP.
- Check prices and limits on https://bugtape.ai/pricing/ before you quote them.
## The problem it solves
- A bug report usually says "it broke" and nothing else. The developer asks for steps, waits, and often cannot make it happen on their own machine.
- The same failure arrives as many separate tickets, so people triage it again and again, and nobody can tell whether it hit one user or everyone.
- Some failures are never reported. A failed checkout can cost a sale; a failed sign-in can cost a user. Capture provides evidence of a supported failure, not proof of why a person left or how much revenue was lost.
- A coding agent can fix a bug quickly, but only when it has the evidence. Pasting logs into a chat by hand is slow and loses context.
## What BugTape does about it
- **Records the lead-up:** in the browser, a replay of the page (rebuilt from DOM events, not video), the failed request, the console and the stack; on servers, the error, stack, route pattern, service and release.
- **Groups repeats:** every report of the same failure becomes one issue with a count, the releases it hit and the users it reached (when the app sends user IDs).
- **Catches silent failures:** uncaught errors, failed requests after a user action and requests that hang are reported without anyone pressing a button. Users can also report problems from an optional floating bug button. After a newly accepted automatic high or critical issue, the button gives a quiet signal; duplicates, known regressions and silenced issues stay quiet. Opening the form clears it. The signal is configurable and does not assess revenue loss.
- **Hands it to your agent:** Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or any MCP client reads the issue, works on a fix and opens a pull request. People review it and decide what ships. Progress shows in BugTape and in Slack or email.
- **Checks the fix:** when you mark an issue fixed, BugTape anchors it to the release. If the same failure arrives from a newer release, the issue reopens as a regression and your team and agent are alerted.
- **Starts free:** the Free plan needs no credit card. Setup is one script tag or one SDK call.
## Where it fits
- Teams whose users find bugs before they do: online stores and Shopify storefronts, SaaS and web apps, apps built with coding agents, iOS apps, and internal tools.
- It works next to APM, logging and analytics tools. Those answer "how is the system doing"; BugTape answers "what broke for this user, how often, and what is the fix". How it sits next to Datadog: https://bugtape.ai/docs/beat-datadog-agent-loop.md
- It is not a metrics, log-search, BI or product-analytics tool, and it keeps event evidence for a plan window (Free 7 days, Pro 30 days), not for years.
## Capture
- **Browser:** ``, or `npm install @bugtape/sdk` with a bundler. Options include `showButton: false` (no bug button; automatic reports still run, and `instance.open()` opens the form from your own link), `privacy: 'strict'` and `disableDomRecording: true`.
- **Node.js:** `npm install @bugtape/node`, then `bugtape.init({ service: "api" })` with `BUGTAPE_KEY`. Uncaught exceptions, unhandled rejections, Express 5xx errors with the route pattern, Next.js `onRequestError`, `captureException` / `captureMessage`. Docs: https://bugtape.ai/docs/node/
- **Python:** `pip install bugtape`, then `bugtape.init(service="reports")` with `BUGTAPE_KEY`. Uncaught exceptions (main and threads), ERROR log records, `capture_exception` / `capture_message`, Streamlit page errors. Docs: https://bugtape.ai/docs/python/
- **iOS and macOS:** Swift package (alpha) for handled errors, messages, breadcrumbs and user reports. Fatal crash capture is not available.
- **Any other sender:** `POST https://app.bugtape.ai/v1/ingest` with header `X-BugTape-Key: bt_live_…`. Schema: https://bugtape.ai/docs/ingest-schema.md
- What a server report always carries, even when the stack or release is missing: https://bugtape.ai/docs/examples/server/evidence-floor.md
- Server SDKs attach Datadog trace ids when a Datadog tracer is running, so an issue links to its trace.
## Agent loop over MCP
Endpoint `https://app.bugtape.ai/mcp`. Connect in one step: `npx -y bugtape connect claude` (or `cursor`, `codex`, `grok`, `grok-bot`) prints a link and a code; a person clicks Allow once, and it works with no browser on the agent's machine. Clients with MCP sign-in (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex) need only the URL: BugTape supports OAuth 2.1 with PKCE, Client ID Metadata Documents and dynamic registration. Or paste `Authorization: Bearer bt_pat_…` (Team → Add an agent). Set up capture in a repo with the same command and `init`, or the MCP tool `setup_capture`. MCP works on every plan: on Free and Prepaid credits each agent read of a bug costs 2 credits (Free includes 150 a month); on Pro, reads are free. Capture keys cannot open MCP.
1. `list_recommended_critical` — issues a person sent you with Send to agent come first (`sentToYou`), then the ranked inbox.
2. `get_repro_context` — a compact evidence pack for one occurrence: report text, timeline, request, console and stack.
3. `ack_bug` with `action: "working"` when you take the work; add `prUrl` when the pull request is open. The team sees "Picked up" and "PR opened".
4. `subscribe_feed` with `deliveryFeed: "urgent_critical"` (also `all`, `ui_ux`), then `listen` on `bugtape://projects/{projectId}/inbox` — it wakes when a new issue arrives in that feed or when someone sends you one.
5. A different token must verify a fix than the one that proposed it.
Setup: https://bugtape.ai/docs/mcp-install.md · CLI: https://bugtape.ai/docs/cli/ · Tools: https://bugtape.ai/docs/mcp-tools.md · Snippet for your repo: https://bugtape.ai/docs/examples/AGENTS.md
A headless agent (Cursor Automation, Claude Code Routine, a worker) can take a signed JSON POST instead of listening. Create a Webhook or Agent destination, optional `Authorization: Bearer`, and verify `X-BugTape-Signature-256` (`t=,v1=` over `.`, 300 second window). The older `X-BugTape-Signature` still arrives. Payload version `2026-10-08` includes `bugId`, `title`, `severity`, `reportCount`, `release`, `consoleUrl`, and `evidence.mcp` (`get_repro_context`). A Claude destination sets `config.preset` to `claude_routine`, posts `{"text":"…"}` to `https://api.anthropic.com/v1/claude_code/routines//fire`, and adds `anthropic-beta: experimental-cc-routine-2026-04-01` and `anthropic-version: 2023-06-01`. Capture retries for that JSON are 10s, 1m, 5m, 30m, 2h, then the dead-letter log. Docs: https://bugtape.ai/docs/webhooks.md
## BugTape Live terminal
Run `npx -y bugtape login` for the CLI, then `npx -y bugtape live`. Connect the coding agent to MCP separately with its own authorisation. Select issues with Space, preview with P, then confirm the local agent launch. Only selected issue IDs are passed; the agent reads evidence using its own MCP access. A running agent or linked pull request does not prove a fix. Guide: https://bugtape.ai/docs/terminal-live/
## Privacy and security
- The browser SDK keeps a short rolling buffer in memory. Nothing is sent until an error or a report, and then only that buffer.
- Form fields are masked in the browser. Elements marked `data-bugtape-ignore` are left out of the replay. Page text in standard mode is recorded; strict mode (`privacy: 'strict'`) turns page text into solid blocks ("Anna Smith" → "▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇"), strips query strings and drops request and response bodies before anything leaves the browser.
- Client-detail tokens: elements marked `data-bugtape-token` (and values passed to `token()`) leave the browser as placeholders; the real values are sealed with the customer's public key (`tokenize: { publicKey }`). BugTape stores them but cannot read them; the team opens them in the console with the private key, in the browser. For agents: `⟦bt:N⟧` in evidence is a sealed client detail, not corrupted text; work with the placeholder and do not try to recover the value.
- Server SDKs redact error messages by pattern before sending (emails, numbers, quoted values, ids, secrets) and never read request bodies, headers, cookies or variable values.
- Data is stored in Australia (Sydney). Capture keys are per project, can expire, and are stored as digests. Roles control who can see and change issues. Evidence is deleted after the plan's retention window.
- Before installing on screens with client data, the privacy checklist shows how to prove what is stored: https://bugtape.ai/docs/privacy-proof-checklist.md
- Security and data handling: https://bugtape.ai/trust/ · Privacy policy: https://bugtape.ai/privacy/
## Limits
- Screenshots and voice notes in the built-in report form are not available on the hosted service.
- The iOS package does not capture fatal crashes.
- Shopify-hosted checkout pages do not load theme scripts, so they are not covered.
- No SOC 2 report yet. Ask for a data processing agreement if you need one.
## Plans
- **Free:** $0, no credit card. 100 new issues a month, 1 project, 3 members, 7-day evidence, 150 credits a month, MCP (2 credits a bug read).
- **Prepaid credits:** $10 = 2,000 credits that never expire (1 credit = 1 new issue; an agent read of a bug = 2); every Pro feature while you hold credits, with no monthly subscription and a hard monthly budget.
- **Pro:** $29 USD a month with 10,000 credits each month. 5,000 new issues a month, unlimited projects, 10 members, 30-day evidence, MCP with free agent reads.
- **Two limits:** a new issue costs 1 credit and a repeat report of an existing issue costs 0. When credits run out, capture continues; AI analysis and paid agent reads pause. When a workspace reaches its monthly new-issue allowance (Free 100, Pro and Prepaid credits 5,000), ingest answers HTTP 402 and refuses reports until the next month, or until a Free workspace buys credits.

## Comparison pages
# /vs/sentry/
# BugTape vs Sentry for coding agents
Sentry and BugTape answer different questions. Sentry tells you how the system is behaving, and Seer can suggest a cause inside that workflow. BugTape is the issue loop a coding agent can close: evidence in, a pull request out, a human reviews it, and BugTape checks the fix in the next release.
Use both when you already run Sentry. This page does not ask you to leave it.
No account: `npx -y bugtape --help` prints the commands and does not sign you in. MCP needs one sign-in.
Page owner: Jaco Veldsman, hi@bugtape.ai. Last checked 2026-10-15.
Public Sentry docs on 2026-10-15 place MCP at https://mcp.sentry.dev/mcp and require OAuth. The Seer issue-fix API describes root cause, generated code changes, and opening a pull request. BugTape does not claim that loop is unique.
Most MCP bug tools let an agent read a report. BugTape lets the agent close one: ranked evidence in, a pull request out, a human reviews it, and BugTape checks the fix in the next release.
## Two different jobs
Sentry is an observability platform. Its hosted MCP is at `mcp.sentry.dev`. Seer does root-cause analysis and recommended fixes for a human-in-the-loop coding agent. Sentry also documents Resolve in next release and a Regressed issue status. Those facts are on [Sentry's MCP docs](https://docs.sentry.io/ai/mcp/), the [Seer note](https://blog.sentry.io/seer-mcp-cli-or-coding-agent/), and [issue states](https://docs.sentry.io/product/issues/states-triage/).
BugTape is not LLM observability, and it is not an APM. It groups the same failure into one issue, keeps the browser evidence and the user report with it, and hands that issue to an agent over MCP.
## What Sentry MCP and Seer already do well
Sentry MCP gives an agent production context from the Sentry project you already have. The [Cursor cookbook](https://sentry.io/cookbook/fix-issues-sentry-mcp-cursor/) shows that path. Seer can propose a cause and a fix inside Sentry's own workflow. If your team lives in Sentry and the job is root-cause analysis there, that stack is built for it.
BugTape does not claim Sentry lacks regression detection. Their Regressed status is real.
## What BugTape adds
The loop your agent runs, in tool names:
1. `subscribe_feed` with `urgent_critical`.
2. `list_recommended_critical` (Send to agent handoffs come back under `sentToYou`).
3. `get_repro_context` for the timeline, the failed request, the console and the stack.
4. `ack_bug` with `working`, then again with `prUrl` when the pull request is open.
5. A human reviews the pull request. Agents do not silent-ship.
6. You mark the fix against a release. A later release that hits the same failure reopens it. `listen` can wake an agent when listen is allowed (Pro or prepaid credits). Verified Close needs a different token from the one that proposed the fix (`E_SELF_VERIFY`).
Browser capture can use the hosted module `https://app.bugtape.ai/bugtape.mjs`. DOM replay is rebuilt from DOM events. It is not a screen video. Fatal iOS crash capture is not available.
## Feature matrix
Each cell is a BugTape fact from the public docs, or a pointer to that vendor's own page as of 2026-10-07. This table does not copy Sentry's prices. Read those on [Sentry's pricing page](https://sentry.io/pricing/).
| | Sentry | BugTape |
|---|---|---|
| APM, traces, Seer | Sentry's job. Seer does root-cause analysis for coding agents. [MCP docs](https://docs.sentry.io/ai/mcp/). [Seer note](https://blog.sentry.io/seer-mcp-cli-or-coding-agent/). | BugTape does not do APM, traces, or Seer-style root-cause analysis. |
| Regression after a release | Sentry documents Resolve in next release and a Regressed status. [Issue states](https://docs.sentry.io/product/issues/states-triage/). | A fix you approve is anchored to that report's release. The same failure from a later release reopens as a regression and can alert the team and the agent. |
| Browser evidence | Sentry documents its own replay product. | DOM-event replay, grouping, and a user report button in one inbox. DOM replay is rebuilt from events. It is not a screen video. |
| Agent progress the team sees | Sentry MCP gives the agent production context. [Cursor cookbook](https://sentry.io/cookbook/fix-issues-sentry-mcp-cursor/). | `ack_bug` with `working`, then again with `prUrl`. The team sees Picked up and PR opened. A human reviews the pull request. |
| Free-plan MCP | Check Sentry's current plan. This page does not state their price. | MCP works on Free. Each agent read of a bug's captured events costs 2 credits. Free includes 150 credits a month. On Pro, those reads are free. |
| Where data lives | Check Sentry's regions on their trust pages. | The app runs on Fly.io in Sydney. Postgres is Neon on AWS in ap-southeast-2. Email and payments may be outside Australia. [Trust](/trust/). |
| Drop-in Sentry DSN | A Sentry DSN talks to Sentry. | Not shipped. BugTape does not accept a Sentry DSN. |
Ordinary issue changes (`update_bug`, `merge_bugs`, `delete_bug`, `add_comment`) stay human-only for an agent token. [MCP tools](/docs/mcp-tools/).
## When Seer and Sentry MCP are enough
Stay on Sentry alone when the team is already deep in Sentry, the agent only needs Seer's root-cause pass, and you are not asking for a second inbox. That is a valid setup.
## When BugTape's job is the one you want
Add BugTape when you want Send to agent or auto-notify, a pull-request URL recorded on the issue, a release check, and an agent wake when the failure returns (when listen is allowed: Pro or prepaid credits). Python and Streamlit reports can sit in the same inbox as the browser. [Streamlit error tracking](/streamlit/error-tracking/).
## Use both
Keep Sentry, or keep Datadog, for observability. Add BugTape for the close loop. The same idea next to Datadog is written up in [Keep Datadog, add BugTape](/docs/beat-datadog-agent-loop/). The general compare page is [Compare](/compare/).
## Other MCP bug tools in the same search
BugTape is not the only product with an MCP read path. [BugMojo](/compare/bugmojo/), [Ybug](https://ybug.io/docs/mcp), [Bugfender](https://bugfender.com/blog/bugfender-mcp/), [BugCapture](https://www.npmjs.com/package/bugcapture-mcp), trycatch, TraceBug and agenterr also ship agent or MCP paths. A longer Sentry-MCP page is [Sentry MCP alternative](/alternatives/sentry-mcp/).
## FAQ
### Should I leave Sentry?
No. Use both when you already run Sentry. This page does not ask you to leave it.
### Does BugTape accept a Sentry DSN?
Not shipped. BugTape does not accept a Sentry DSN.
### Can I try the CLI with no account?
`npx -y bugtape --help` prints the commands and does not sign you in. Connecting MCP needs one sign-in.
## Try the loop
Install BugTape MCP. Do not treat this as a migration off Sentry.
```bash
npx -y bugtape connect cursor
```
The same command accepts `claude`, `codex`, `grok` or `grok-bot`. Client steps: [Connect Cursor](/connect/cursor/) · [Install in Claude Code](/install/claude-code/) · [MCP install](/docs/mcp-install/).

# /alternatives/sentry-mcp/
# Sentry MCP alternative for agent-fixable bugs
People who search for a Sentry MCP alternative usually want one of two things. One is a thinner wrapper over the same Sentry issues. The other is an agent that can close a production bug: read the evidence, open a pull request, and have a human review it.
This page is the second job. The side-by-side with Sentry as an observability platform is [BugTape vs Sentry](/vs/sentry/). Use both is a valid answer. This is not a rip-out guide.
BugTape does not claim Sentry lacks regression detection.
## What Sentry MCP does well
Sentry's hosted MCP (`mcp.sentry.dev`) is built for human-in-the-loop coding agents. [Their MCP docs](https://docs.sentry.io/ai/mcp/) and the [Cursor cookbook](https://sentry.io/cookbook/fix-issues-sentry-mcp-cursor/) show agents pulling Sentry context. Seer adds root-cause analysis on top of that. [Seer's own note](https://blog.sentry.io/seer-mcp-cli-or-coding-agent/) is the right place to read what Seer claims. If that is the workflow you want, keep it.
## What "alternative" should mean
An alternative that only lists the same issues again does not change the loop. BugTape's loop is different on purpose:
1. `list_recommended_critical` is the ranked inbox. Send to agent handoffs are first, under `sentToYou`.
2. `get_repro_context` returns the timeline, the failed request, the console and the stack. It is not a raw DOM dump.
3. `ack_bug` with `working`, then with `prUrl`, so the team sees Picked up and PR opened.
4. A human reviews the pull request.
5. The fix is checked against the next release. A recurrence from a newer release reopens as a regression.
`update_bug`, `merge_bugs`, `delete_bug` and `add_comment` stay human-only. Verified Close refuses the same token that proposed the fix (`E_SELF_VERIFY`). [MCP tools](/docs/mcp-tools/) · [Runner verification](/docs/runner-verification/).
## The MCP bug-tool landscape
One line each, from those vendors' public pages as of 2026-10-07:
| Tool | What their pages describe |
|---|---|
| Sentry MCP + Seer | Hosted MCP and root-cause analysis inside Sentry. [Docs](https://docs.sentry.io/ai/mcp/). |
| BugMojo | rrweb evidence, an AGENT assignee, a repro pack and a PR link. [Features](https://www.bugmojo.com/features). [Compared here](/compare/bugmojo/). |
| Ybug | Hosted MCP for a feedback widget. Their docs say MCP is not on the Free plan. [Ybug MCP](https://ybug.io/docs/mcp). |
| Bugfender | Read-only MCP over logs, crashes and devices. Strong mobile logging. BugTape does not match that log depth. [Bugfender MCP](https://bugfender.com/blog/bugfender-mcp/). |
| BugCapture | Local stdio MCP with `list_bugs` and `get_bug` for QA reports. [npm](https://www.npmjs.com/package/bugcapture-mcp). |
trycatch, TraceBug and agenterr are in the same category. BugTape is not the only MCP bug product.

No account: `npx -y bugtape --help` prints the commands and does not sign you in. MCP needs one sign-in.

BugMojo's own pages (as of 2026-10-07) describe rrweb replay, console, network and screenshot capture from a browser extension, an AGENT assignee, `get_repro_pack`, `link_pr`, agents that can push a PR, and QA verification (plus regression suites promoted from fixed issues). Read that on [bugmojo.com](https://www.bugmojo.com/) and [their features page](https://www.bugmojo.com/features). They do publish PR linking. This page does not say otherwise.
## Matrix
| | BugMojo (their pages) | BugTape (our docs) |
|---|---|---|
| How a bug is filed | Extension or one-click capture, aimed at a QA workflow. | Automatic capture of uncaught errors, failed requests and hung requests. User report button is optional. Browser, Node.js, Python and Streamlit can share one project. [Python](/docs/python/). |
| Grouping | See their features page. | One issue per failure, with a count, releases, and affected users when ids are sent. |
| Agent progress | AGENT assignee, repro pack, PR link; agents can push a PR; QA verifies (their pages). | `ack_bug` with `working` and `prUrl`. The team sees Picked up and PR opened. A human reviews the pull request. |
| After the release | Their pages describe QA verification and regression suites that learn from fixed bugs. Read their docs for the exact rule. | The approved fix anchors to the report's release. The same failure from a later release reopens as a regression. |
| Who may verify | QA verifies, on their description. | Verified Close needs a different token from the fixer (`E_SELF_VERIFY`). Runner enrollment is a human admin step. [MCP tools](/docs/mcp-tools/). |
| MCP on Free | Check BugMojo's current plan page. Not stated here. | MCP on every plan. Free and Prepaid credits: 2 credits for each agent read of captured events. Free includes 150 credits a month. Pro reads are free. `listen` needs Pro or prepaid credits. [Pricing](/pricing/). |
| Where data lives | Check BugMojo. | Fly.io Sydney, Neon Postgres in ap-southeast-2. Email and payments may be outside Australia. No SOC 2 report yet. [Trust](/trust/). |
DOM replay in BugTape is rebuilt from DOM events. It is not a screen video. Fatal iOS crash capture is not available. BugTape does not claim Bugfender's mobile log depth, and it is not a UAT-widget replacement.
## When BugMojo fits
Choose BugMojo when the workflow is QA-led and the bug is filed from the browser extension on purpose. Their verification model is QA-led (and regression suites on their pages). Use their docs for that.
## When BugTape fits
Choose BugTape when production should file the issue without a click, including server and Streamlit errors, and you want Send to agent, a PR URL on the issue, and a release check. You can read both products' MCP docs and run the one that matches the job.
## FAQ
### Does BugMojo link pull requests?
Yes. They do publish PR linking, and their pages say agents can push a PR. This page does not say otherwise.
### Is BugTape the only MCP bug product?
No. This page does not call BugTape the only MCP bug product.
### Can I try the CLI with no account?
`npx -y bugtape --help` prints the commands and does not sign you in. Connecting MCP needs one sign-in.
## Connect BugTape
```bash
npx -y bugtape connect claude
```
`connect cursor` is the Cursor form. [Claude Code](/install/claude-code/) · [Cursor](/connect/cursor/) · [MCP install](/docs/mcp-install/). Sentry can stay in place: [BugTape vs Sentry](/vs/sentry/).

# BugTape vs LogRocket
LogRocket records sessions, product analytics, and errors, and its pricing page lists MCP. BugTape groups one failure with a short replay and hands that issue to your agent.

## What LogRocket publishes
Checked on LogRocket's own site on 2026-10-15:
- Session replay for web and native. Their pages call the replay pixel-perfect.
- Product analytics, including funnels and heatmaps.
- Error tracking for JavaScript exceptions, failed requests, crashes, stacks, and alerts.
- Galileo AI on their product pages.
- Pricing is based on sessions. Their pages say analytics, logs, and errors are unlimited.
- Their pricing page lists "MCP / API access". Read that page for which plan includes it. This page does not state a dollar price or a plan name for that line.
## What BugTape does
BugTape does not record every visit. It keeps a short buffer and sends it with a supported error or a user report. Repeats of the same failure become one issue. An authorized agent reads that issue over MCP after one sign-in. DOM replay is rebuilt from events. It is not a screen video. Hosted screenshots and voice notes are not stored. Fatal iOS crash capture is not available.
## Facts
| | LogRocket (their pages, 2026-10-15) | BugTape (our docs) |
|---|---|---|
| Main job | Sessions, analytics, and errors across visits. | One grouped failure, with the evidence around it. |
| Replay | They publish session replay for web and native. | A short DOM-event replay sent with a report. Not every visit. Not a screen video. |
| MCP | Their pricing page lists MCP / API access. Read the page for the current plan. | MCP on every plan after one sign-in. `npx -y bugtape --help` needs no account. |
| Price | Their pricing page. This page does not copy a dollar amount. | Free is $0. Prepaid credits are $10 for 2,000 credits. Pro is $29 a month. |
## When each fits
Use LogRocket when you want a recording and analytics for visits, including visits that did not fail. Use BugTape when you want the broken ones grouped, with evidence an agent can read. Use both when you already pay for session analytics and also want that agent loop.
## Similar tools
FullStory is in the same session-replay class. This page does not score FullStory. Jam, Marker.io, and BugHerd are bug-report widgets; see [Compare](/compare/). [BugTape and Sentry](/compare/sentry/) and [Switching from Highlight](/compare/highlight/) are separate pages. BugTape does not claim it is alone in offering MCP.
## FAQ
### Is BugTape a LogRocket replacement?
No. LogRocket records sessions, analytics, and errors. BugTape does not record every visit, and it does not publish funnels or heatmaps.
### Does LogRocket have error tracking and MCP?
Yes. Their pages describe error tracking, and their pricing page lists MCP / API access. This page does not say which plan includes MCP. Read their pricing page.
### Can I try BugTape with no account?
`npx -y bugtape --help` prints the commands and does not sign you in. The live demo runs in the browser and sends nothing. Connecting MCP needs one sign-in.
