# BugTape vs ObserverKit

ObserverKit is EU-hosted error tracking for JavaScript, TypeScript and React Native, with source-map symbolication and an MCP server. BugTape groups user reports and silent failures into one issue with browser replay for your agent.

No account: `npx -y bugtape --help` prints the commands and does not sign you in. MCP needs one sign-in.

## What ObserverKit publishes

Checked on ObserverKit's own site on 2026-10-16:

- EU hosting (GDPR).
- JavaScript, TypeScript and React Native (`@observerkit/react-native`, Expo).
- Source-map symbolicated stack traces.
- MCP server with 5 tools: `list_error_groups`, `get_error_group`, `list_error_events`, `resolve_error_group`, `ignore_error_group`. API key bearer auth.
- A resolved error group that recurs reopens automatically.
- AI fix proposals (an explanation plus a diff) on the Pro plan.
- Free plan, no card: 500 errors a month, 30-day retention. Pro is EUR10 a month: 25,000 errors, 90-day retention, 20 AI fix proposals.
- Session replay and a user bug button are not stated on their site.

## What BugTape does

BugTape does not record every visit. It keeps a short buffer and sends it with a supported error or a user report. Repeats of the same failure become one issue. An authorized agent reads that issue over MCP after one sign-in. DOM replay is rebuilt from events; it is not a screen video. Server SDKs (Node.js, Python) add route, service and release so a fix anchors to what shipped.

## When each fits

Use ObserverKit when you want EU data residency, a React Native SDK, source-map symbolicated stacks, or AI-drafted fix proposals on their Pro plan. Use BugTape when you want user reports and browser replay grouped into the same issue as silent failures, Python or Node.js server capture, and an agent inbox with PR acknowledgement over MCP on every plan.
