# Sentry alternatives in 2026: nine tools compared on price, replay and MCP

**Short answer:** If you want Sentry without Sentry's hosting bill, use **GlitchTip**: it accepts Sentry's SDKs and you can self-host it. If you want a focused hosted error tracker with flat pricing, look at **Honeybadger** or **Rollbar**. Mobile-first teams should look at **Bugsnag**. Teams going all-in on OpenTelemetry should look at **SigNoz**. If you already use PostHog for analytics, **PostHog error tracking** is the cheapest way to start. If replay matters more than stack traces, look at **LogRocket**. **BugTape** is the narrow option. I built it to hand user-hit web bugs to a coding agent with the evidence attached. It doesn't do tracing or logs.

No account: `npx -y bugtape --help` prints the commands and does not sign you in. The demo MCP at https://app.bugtape.ai/demo/mcp needs no sign-in. Your own workspace needs one.

Every tool here that's still sold on its own now has some form of MCP access, so "it has MCP" doesn't separate them any more. What does separate them is what the agent gets when it connects.

Page owner: Jaco Veldsman, hi@bugtape.ai. Last checked 2026-10-18. I build BugTape, so read the BugTape row with that in mind. The comparison uses vendor pricing pages and docs checked on 18 October 2026. The Sentry, PostHog and LogRocket table names link to their pricing pages. Prices change, so check their sites before you buy.

## How I'd choose

| If you need… | Pick |
|---|---|
| Keep your Sentry SDK calls, run it yourself | GlitchTip |
| A flat monthly price and unlimited users | Honeybadger |
| Mobile crash and stability scoring | Bugsnag |
| Traces, logs and metrics on OpenTelemetry | SigNoz (or stay on Sentry) |
| Errors next to product analytics | PostHog |
| Replay first, errors second | LogRocket |
| A coding agent that works through the user-hit bug list and opens PRs | BugTape, next to whichever tracker you keep |
| Tracing, profiling, native crashes, SOC 2, EU region | Stay on Sentry, or pick SigNoz or Bugsnag. BugTape doesn't do these. |

## Why I added BugTape to this list

Most Sentry alternatives lists compare the same things: event quotas, seats and whether you can self-host. That matters if a person reads the error. More and more often it's a coding agent that reads it, and then different questions come up:

- **Does the agent get the user's side of the bug?** A stack trace on its own often isn't enough to reproduce a failure. BugTape's `get_repro_context` returns the report text, a timeline, the failed request, the console and the stack for one occurrence.
- **Do two agents end up on the same bug?** BugTape's MCP has `claim_issue`, `renew_claim` and `release_claim`. An agent leases an issue for 60 to 900 seconds. Each claim comes with a generation and a fencing token, and an agent holding a stale fence has to stop and get current authority before it continues. These tools need an agent token that an admin has given an explicit project work grant.
- **Can the agent mark its own work as verified?** No. `propose_fix` records the PR and never closes the issue. A different token has to call `verify_fix`, and if the fixer's own token tries, it gets `E_SELF_VERIFY`. A person still reviews the PR.
- **Does a fixed bug come back?** If the same failure arrives from a newer release, the issue reopens as a regression and the agent is told.

That's a narrow job. BugTape has no tracing, logs, metrics, profiling, fatal native crash capture or self-hosting. If you need those, it doesn't replace Sentry. Plenty of teams keep Sentry and add BugTape on the screens where users hit bugs. See [BugTape vs Sentry](/compare/sentry/).

## Notes on each tool

- **GlitchTip.** Its site says it is "compatible with Sentry client SDKs" and open source. The hosted plans are priced by events. When you go over your quota it throttles by 10%, then gradually more, until it blocks fully at 2x.
- **Rollbar.** The Free plan includes session replay sessions as well as occurrences. Paid tiers are priced in credits, and the page shows no single flat price.
- **Honeybadger.** Team and Business both include 50K errors a month. Business adds security and compliance features and 180-day error retention.
- **Bugsnag.** It now sits under SmartBear. Paid prices load in the browser, and a fetch without JavaScript shows $0, which is why some lists get the numbers wrong. The figures above are the starting prices the page showed after rendering on 18 Oct.
- **SigNoz.** Errors are exceptions taken from traces, so you instrument with OpenTelemetry rather than an error SDK.
- **PostHog.** Each error comes with the affected user's session replay, events and properties.
- **LogRocket.** The price depends on sessions, seats, retention and add-ons, and is billed annually.
- **Highlight.io.** It now redirects to LaunchDarkly, so evaluate it as a LaunchDarkly product.

## Try BugTape without an account

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http bugtape-demo https://app.bugtape.ai/demo/mcp
```
The demo is read-only and holds one sample shop. Start with `list_recommended_critical`, then `get_repro_context`. Your own workspace needs one sign-in: `npx -y bugtape connect claude` (or `cursor`, `codex`), then click Allow once.

## FAQ

### What is the best free Sentry alternative?

For self-hosting, GlitchTip: it's open source and accepts Sentry's SDKs. Among hosted free plans on 18 Oct 2026, PostHog gave the most volume at 100,000 exceptions a month. Honeybadger and Rollbar each give 5,000.

### Is there an open-source Sentry alternative?

Yes. GlitchTip is open source and compatible with Sentry's client SDKs. SigNoz is open source and built on OpenTelemetry.

### Which Sentry alternatives have an MCP server for coding agents?

On 18 Oct 2026, all of these had some form of MCP access: Sentry, GlitchTip (self-hosted, off by default), Rollbar, Honeybadger, Bugsnag through SmartBear, SigNoz, PostHog, LogRocket and BugTape.

### Is BugTape a Sentry replacement?

Only if all you need is bug evidence for web apps plus a hand-off to an agent. It has no tracing, logs, metrics, profiling, native crash capture or self-hosting.

### How do I stop two coding agents fixing the same bug?

In BugTape, an agent calls `claim_issue` to lease the issue for 60 to 900 seconds, `renew_claim` to keep it, and `release_claim` to hand back unfinished work. Each claim carries a fencing token, and an agent with a stale fence has to stop. You need an agent token with a project work grant.

### How much does BugTape cost?

The Free plan costs nothing and needs no card. Prepaid credits are $10 for 2,000. Pro is $29 USD a month. See [Pricing](/pricing/).
