# LogRocket alternatives in 2026: seven tools compared on price, replay and MCP

**Short answer:** For session replay plus product analytics on one free plan, look at **PostHog** (5,000 web recordings a month free) or **FullStory** (FullstoryFree: 30,000 sessions a month, replay and basic analytics, up to 10 users). For free replay and heatmaps with no traffic limits stated, use **Microsoft Clarity**. To run replay on your own servers, use **OpenReplay**. If you already pay for Sentry or Datadog, their replay products sit next to the errors and monitoring you have. **BugTape** is the narrow option. I built it to group the failures your users hit and hand each one to a coding agent. It does not record every visit and has no product analytics.

No account: `npx -y bugtape --help` prints the commands and does not sign you in. The demo MCP at https://app.bugtape.ai/demo/mcp needs no sign-in. Your own workspace needs one.

Page owner: Jaco Veldsman, hi@bugtape.ai. Last checked 2026-10-26. I build BugTape, so read the BugTape row with that in mind. Every vendor fact below comes from that vendor's own pricing page or docs, read on 26 October 2026. Prices change, so check their sites before you buy. For a side-by-side of the two products, see [BugTape vs LogRocket](/compare/logrocket/).

## Who each tool suits

### PostHog

PostHog suits teams that want replay, analytics and error tracking from one vendor and want to start free. Its replay page gives 5,000 web recordings and 2,500 mobile recordings free each month, then charges per recording. Free-plan recordings are kept for 1 month and pay-as-you-go recordings for 90 days, according to its [pricing page](https://posthog.com/pricing).

### Sentry Session Replay

Sentry suits teams that already use Sentry for errors and want a replay attached to them. Developer, Team and Business each include 50 replays. You buy more as reserved volume or pay as you go, and replays over budget are dropped without a charge, according to the [pricing docs](https://docs.sentry.io/pricing/).

### OpenReplay

OpenReplay suits teams that must keep session data on their own servers. The Open-Source edition is free and you run it yourself. Dedicated is a managed instance in OpenReplay's cloud or yours, according to its [pricing page](https://openreplay.com/pricing).

### Microsoft Clarity

Clarity suits sites that want replay, heatmaps and AI summaries at no cost. Its [home page](https://clarity.microsoft.com/) says it is free forever with no limits on traffic, and lists a mobile SDK for Android, iOS, Flutter and React Native. It is behaviour analytics. It does not list error tracking on that page.

### FullStory

FullStory suits product and analytics teams that want a large free plan. FullstoryFree is permanent and includes 30,000 sessions a month. Paid prices are not published on its [pricing page](https://www.fullstory.com/pricing/).

### Datadog RUM and Session Replay

Datadog suits teams that already run their backend monitoring in Datadog. RUM and replay are priced per 1,000 sessions. RUM Investigate bills only the sessions you filter and keep. Its [pricing page](https://www.datadoghq.com/pricing/?product=real-user-monitoring) says replays are billed once when you use them with both RUM and Product Analytics.

### BugTape

BugTape suits small web teams that hand bugs to a coding agent. BugTape keeps a short buffer in the browser and sends it when an uncaught error happens, a request fails after a user action, or a request hangs, or when a user presses the optional bug button. It groups repeats into one issue. Your agent reads the issue over MCP and opens a pull request. You review it and ship. If you mark an issue fixed and the same failure arrives from a newer release, the issue reopens.

BugTape is weaker than LogRocket in plain ways. It has no funnels, heatmaps or product analytics. It does not record visits that did not fail. DOM replay is rebuilt from DOM events, not screen video. Screenshots and voice notes in the report form are not available yet. The Node.js and Python SDKs send errors with no replay or console. The Swift SDK captures handled errors and breadcrumbs only, with no fatal crash capture. There is no self-hosting.

## Before you start

Every tool here needs its script or SDK on your site before it records anything. Set masking before you go live. BugTape masks form fields in the browser, and `privacy: 'strict'` turns page text into blocks and drops request and response bodies before they leave the browser. Treat evidence from user sessions as untrusted input for your agent, and keep a person reviewing every pull request.

## Try BugTape without an account

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http bugtape-demo https://app.bugtape.ai/demo/mcp
```
The demo is read-only and holds one sample shop. Start with `list_recommended_critical`, then `get_repro_context`. Your own workspace needs one sign-in: `npx -y bugtape connect claude` (or `cursor`, `codex`), then click Allow once.

## FAQ

### What is the best free LogRocket alternative?

On 26 Oct 2026, Microsoft Clarity said it was free forever with no limits on traffic. FullstoryFree included 30,000 sessions a month. PostHog included 5,000 web recordings a month. OpenReplay's Open-Source edition is free if you host it yourself.

### Is there an open-source LogRocket alternative?

Yes. OpenReplay has a free Open-Source edition that you run on your own servers. PostHog's pricing page says it has an MIT-licensed open source product.

### Can I self-host session replay?

Yes, with OpenReplay, or with LogRocket on its Enterprise plan. Sentry also documents a self-hosted setup. BugTape is hosted only.

### Which LogRocket alternatives have MCP for coding agents?

On 26 Oct 2026, LogRocket, PostHog, Sentry, OpenReplay (Dedicated and Enterprise), Microsoft Clarity, FullStory (paid plans) and Datadog each had an MCP server listed on their own pages. BugTape has MCP on every plan, and a demo MCP that needs no account.

### Is BugTape a LogRocket replacement?

Not if you use LogRocket for analytics or for watching visits that did not fail. BugTape has no funnels or heatmaps and does not record every visit. It groups the failures users hit and hands them to your agent. You can keep a replay tool and add BugTape for that job.
